​Spices are seeds, leaves, flowers, roots, berries and bark that usually grow in distant, and sometimes very distant, places. For farmers in India, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Madagascar or Mexico, the aromatic plants that grow in France would be considered exotic. The notion of exotic spices is therefore relative.
